About Us

The Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools

President's Welcome

Dr. Dorris R. Robinson-Gardner
Dean
Division of Graduate Studies
Jackson State University

I am delighted to serve as President of the Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools (CHBGS). The CHBGS, founded in 1970, has the primary goals of increasing the enrollment of African-American students in regionally accredited graduate schools and programs, developing resolutions to the mutual problems facing member institutions and strengthening graduate and professional education and research at historically black colleges and universities( HBCU’s). In addition, the Council provides technical assistance to member institutions. Approximately 50% of the 103 HBCU public and private four-year universities offer graduate and/or professional programs.

Thank you graduate educators for admitting, enrolling, retaining and graduating community of scholars who will continue to serve the future graduation education community.
